Diabetic Association Medical College, Faridpur
The Diabetic Association Medical College, Faridpur started its journey on the 15th November 2009 and opened its doors to the students in the academic year 2009-2010.
The Diabetic Association Medical College, Faridpur is an institution of Faridpur Diabetic Association (FDA) and is run by a Governing Body. It mentionable that Faridpur Diabetic Association is the 2nd member of “International Diabetes Federation” from Bangladesh since 2009.
This Medical College is Affiliated with University of Dhaka and Recognized by Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BM&DC) and Approved by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The College follows the course curriculum of MBBS course as laid down by Dhaka University and Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council. Government of Bangladesh regulates the criteria of admission in 1st year MBBS course and Dhaka University conducts the professional examinations and awards certificates of MBBS degree.
The Diabetic Association Medical College Hospital (DAMCH) is attached herewith as the teaching hospital which is a tertiary care Hospital established in the year 1985 and delivering clinical services in almost all departments of medical science.
The Diabetic Association Medical College and Hospital is located in a quiet and serene environment in the heart of Faridpur city at Mosjid Bari Sarok, Jheeltuly on 2.21 acres of land and covering an enormous area of about two and half lac square feet floor space with all modern amenities.
Since its establishment in the year 2009, Diabetic Association Medical College, Faridpur has come a long way in last the years and achieved great reputation amongst the non-government medical colleges in the country. We have adequate qualified teaching staff and modern teaching aids like computers, multimedia and overhead projectors for effective delivery of lectures. This medical college has a full-fledged library with sufficient text and reference books and journals. The library has high speed internet facilities with HINARI access. Our vision is to lead this institution into a Centre of Excellence for medical education, training and service.
Historical Outline
1983 – 2009 (Year of Seeding& Structural Development)
On 25 November, 1983, Dr. Mohammad Zahed with some other social workers established Faridpur Diabetic Association, the mother organization of this medical college.
On 01 August, 1985,Faridpur Diabetic Association launched Diabetic test of the patients.
On 25 November, 1985, Faridpur Diabetic Association got the affiliation of Diabetic Association of Bangladesh (BADAS).
On 21 February, 2000, Faridpur Diabetic Association starts 25 bed hospital named “Faridpur Diabetic Association Hospital”.
On 03 September, 2005, Faridpur Diabetic Association established Diabetic Association Nursing Institute.
On 9 December, 2005, Faridpur Diabetic Association Executive Committee decided to establish a medical college named “Diabetic Association Medical College, Faridpur”
On 22 December, 2006 Diabetic Association Medical College, Faridpur Board of trustees was formed.
On 18 October, 2009, that Faridpur Diabetic Association achieved the full membership (2nd in Bangladesh) of International Diabetic Federation (IDF).
On November 15, 2009, we achieved the moral approval to establish the college from Ministry of Health and Family welfare.
2010 (Year of the start of the college)
On January 4, University of Dhaka gave the affiliation with the permission of 51 seats to admit students for academic year 2009-2010.
On January 13, Ministry of Health and Family welfare gave the Final Academic approval and permission of 50 seats for the year 2009-2010 and 2010-2011.
On January 21, the first student was admitted named “Tasnima Hassan” who passed MBBS degree in 2015. On that academic year (2009-2010) 51 students were admitted.
On January 31, the first Orientation class of the first batch was held at the lecture hall-1 in the academic bhaban.
On February 19, Eng. Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, MP, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Labour and Employment and Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment inaugurate the Medical college and Mr. Md. Abdul Karim, Joint Secretary of Honorable Prime Minister’s Office, Dr. Khondokar Showkat Hossain, Divisional Commissioner of Dhaka and Prof. Dr. A K Azad Khan, President, Diabetic Association of Bangladesh were present there as special guest. DAMCF Governing body Chairman Mr. Mir Nasir Hossain preside at the inauguration ceremony.
On December 29, University of Dhaka renewed the affiliation with the permission of 51 seats to admit students for academic year 2010-2011.
2011
On October 13, University of Dhaka renewed the affiliation with the permission of 60 seats to admit students for academic year 2011-2012.
On December 27, Ministry of Health and Family welfare renewed the approval with 60 seats for the year 2011-2012 and 2012-2013.
2013
On January 3, University of Dhaka renewed the affiliation with the permission of 70 seats to admit students for academic year 2012-2013.
On October 9, University of Dhaka renewed the affiliation with the permission of 80 seats to admit students for academic year 2013-2014.
On October 29, Ministry of Health and Family welfare permitted to admit student in 70 seat from the academic year 2012-2013.
2014
On November 10, University of Dhaka renewed the affiliation with the permission of 90 seats to admit students for academic year 2014-2015.
2015
On January 19, Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council recognize the MBBS course run by this Medical College up to the session 2014-2015.
On January 29, in the academic session 2014-2015 the first foreign student named “Muskan Pokharel” was admitted who came from Nepal.
On February 26, Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council declare the eligibility to admit foreign students from the academic year 2012-2013.
