Sher-e-Bangla Medical College is a prestigious public Medical College of Bangladesh, situated in the bank of ‘River Kirtonkhola’ in the southeastern part of Barisal. It is not only the 8th ranked public medical college of Bangladesh, but also one among the 8 most ancient medical colleges of Bangladesh. The project to build this college was undertaken in the year of 1964 and was completed in the year of 1968. In the beginning, it was named as ‘Barisal Medical College’ but in 1977 the college name was changed into ‘Sher-e-Bangla Medical College’, in honor of the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Hub.

Let it be cultural activities, aesthetic college campus with all modern accommodations or excellence in teaching, learning and research this college is one of the favorite colleges of the Bangladeshi and international students. Currently it is affiliated to the University of Dhaka and is listed by elite organizations like World Health Organization, World Directory of Medical Schools, General Medical Council and Medical Council of India and so on.

The college campus is elegant. It has 4 air conditioned multimedia lecture galleries, an enriched library, students reading room, doctor\'s reading room, cyber café, 5 student hostel, 2 intern hostel, a modern gymnasium, a playground, a cafeteria, free WiFi zone and many other things in its campus. A 1000 bedded hospital with a 30 bedded burn and plastic surgery unit, a 10 bedded ICU unit, a 150 bedded COVID unit, DOTS corner, 15 bedded CCU, one stop Crisis Center, RH Step, Institute of Nuclear Medicine And Allied Sciences attached to the campus.

In the past 54 years, this eminent institute has been showcasing its excellence and providing MBBS, MDS, M.Phil, B.Sc Nursing, Diploma courses to Bangladeshi and international students at a very low cost. Its records and performances have made it one among the 5 most preferred international medical colleges in Bangladesh. Specially, it is preferred by Indian students for its fee structure, similarity in syllabus with Medical Council of India and homely environment.

Sher-e-Bangla Medical College allows 252 students per year to be a part of their MBBS and MDS batch. It has 19 departments with a huge number of faculties. The college has always provided well determined clinical department with necessary equipment, modern requirements and is devoted to improve their performance in the upcoming years.
